Feasibility study for Ethiopia-Sudan Railway construction kicks off in Khartoum
Addis Ababa, December 13, 2022 (FBC) – A technical validation workshop tasked to conduct feasibility study for the construction of the Ethiopia-Sudan Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) is underway in Khartoum involving participation of experts from both countries and representatives of consulting organizations.
The workshop will continue for the coming two days and its main objective is to review and approve the final phase of the feasibility study and put directives for the next steps.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to Sudan, Yibeltal Aimero stated that the construction of the railway is crucial to bolster bilateral ties and enhance multifaceted cooperation between the two fraternal countries.
General Manager of Sudan Railway, Engineer Walid Ahmed, for his part, highlighted the significance of the railway in connecting the two countries by railway, facilitating the exchange of goods and services and strengthening people to people ties between the nations.
He added that once the feasibility study is completed and then approved, next steps will be taken towards the next phase of the project.
