Gov’t makes amendments on embargo of import goods
Addis Ababa, November 18, 2022 (FBC) – The Ministry of Finance-Ethiopia has announced that an amendment has been made to the embargo of some import goods from entering the country for an indefinite period.
In a letter written to the National Bank of Ethiopia and the Customs Commission, the Ministry of Finance has informed that the following amendments have been made to the items listed below due to the need to amend the list of items that were not allowed to be imported in foreign currency, which was transferred indefinitely.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Finance confirmed that adjustment has been made to the following lists of import goods.
- Materials for the manufacture of parts of goods classified under tariff headings 9401.9000 and 9403.9000;
- Import goods by restaurants and supermarkets that have a license to sell their products and services in foreign currency
- Goods imported by star hotels using their own foreign currency
- Goods imported by duty-free shops are not subject to the foreign currency ban, the Ministry said.
It is to be recalled that the list of 38 import goods for which foreign currency has been banned for an indefinite period was announced in the past month.
