Ministry announces 716mln Birr worth drinking water projects in Somali, South regions

Addis Ababa, October 19, 2022 (FBC) – Ministry of Water and Energy-Ethiopia (MoWE) announced a construction contract agreement signing of three different drinking water projects in Somali and Southern Peoples regions.

The Ministry has confirmed that the three drinking water projects will be built at the cost of more than 716 million birr.

The agreement was signed between MoWE and the Somali Water Works Construction Enterprise (SWWCE) for the construction of two projects in Somali region.

The first of which is the drilling and construction of 4 deep water wells that can withstand drought at a cost of more than 42 million birr in Erer woreda, Somali Region.

The second project is a multi-village drought-resistant drinking water project in Togochale town in the Somali Region.

This project is expected to cost more than 490 million birr including civil works, water pipes and joints, as well as supply and installation of electromechanical equipment.

The third project to be constructed is drinking water project of the town of Chilelektu, Gedeo zone, Southern Peoples region.

More than 182 million birr will be spent on this project, including the supply and installation of civil works, water pipes and fittings, and electromechanical equipment.

The 3rd project will be constructed by Abebe Negash General Contractor.

The agreements for all the projects were signed between Minister of State for Drinking Water and Sanitation at MoWE, Asfaw Dingamo and the heads of the construction companies.

The Minister of State urged the contractors to complete the projects within the scheduled time frame.
