DPM and FM Demeke asks ICRC to step up humanitarian assistance to war victims
Addis Ababa, October 15, 2022 (FBC) – Demeke Mekonnen, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, had a conversation with Gilles Carbonnier, the Vice President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, on the margins of the 10th Tana Forum, which is taking place in Bahir Dar.
During the conversation, Demeke expressed his gratitude to the Red Cross for the humanitarian work they are carrying out in Ethiopia. Additionally, he asked for the Red Cross to step up its humanitarian assistance to northern Ethiopia’s war victims.
Gilles Carbonnier, said that the Organization would continue to work in cooperation with Ethiopia. He discussed how the Red Cross had flown 63 flights in northern Ethiopia the previous year to give humanitarian aid to the impacted areas.
The Vice President stated that the International Red Cross Society is ready to support the peace negotiations in Ethiopia to ensure peace in the country.
The establishment of an all-inclusive national dialogue commission to bring about long-lasting peace in Ethiopia has been given priority by the Ethiopian government, Demeke stated during the meeting.
Additionally,Demeke Mekonnen had conversations on bilateral and regional concerns with Ali Elsadig Ali, the acting minister of foreign affairs of Sudan.
