Embassy in Djibouti, IOM distribute cash donation to vulnerable Ethiopian migrants
Addis Ababa, October 10, 2022 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Embassy in Djibouti, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), organized a function to distribute a cash donation of 12,472 USD to 42 vulnerable Ethiopian migrants in Djibouti.
On the occasion, the Ethiopian Ambassador in Djibouti, Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye, and the country’s representative of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Stéphanie Daviot, distributed a cash donation to vulnerable Ethiopian migrants, which was raised through innovative financial mobilization schemes such as auctioning art pieces depicting migrant stories and struggles.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye heralded the fundraising efforts and pointed out the significance of raising awareness among migrants. Most migrants traveling to the Arabian Peninsula had little to no information about the journey ahead, said the Ambassador, and noted the critical need for collaboration with the IOM to assist migrants during their perilous journey along the Eastern Route.
Ms. Stéphanie Daviot reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to putting in the effort and determination to provide support to migrants on their way to the Arabian Peninsula through the eastern route and appreciated the Embassy’s continued support in providing support to the IOM.
The recipients, for their part, expressed their gratitude to the Ethiopian Embassy in Djibouti and the international organization for migration for the funds raised.
