Police unveils roads to be closed in Addis Ababa over Meskel Demera festival
Addis Ababa, September 26, 2022 (FBC) – The Addis Ababa Police has unveiled roads to be closed in order to address crowds and traffic jams that might result from huge flow of faithful towards the Meskel Square where the Demera festival will take place on September 26.
Road closures will be as follows: Highway from Megenagna to Meskel Square, and the raod from Edna Mall to Kazanchis will be shut starting from the morning.
Roads from Gotera to Meskel Square will be closed at Agona Cinema, and the raod from Gofa to Legehar through the new highway will be closed at Kirkos Church cross road.
Road heading to Legehar from Bulgaria via Mexico Square will be shut down at Temama Fok area. Police also said the roadway from Sar Bet to Mexico Square and, from Tor Hailoch to Lideta Supreme Court will be closed till the festival concludes.
Pavements from Teklohaimanot neighborhood to Immigration, Tikur Ambessa Shell, and the highway from Piasa to Tewodros Square through Churchill Avenue will be closed till completion of the festivity.
Police also called on the community to use 816 hotline and phone numbers 011-1- 11-01-11, 011 -1- 26- 43- 59 and 011-1- 01- 02- 97 to inform about any irregularities or suspicious matters during the festival.
