Ethiopia, South Sudan ink agreement on infrastructure dev’t and economic integration
Addis Ababa, September 22, 2022 (FBC) – Ministry of Finance confirmed that Ethiopia and South Sudan have signed cooperation agreement on infrastructure development and economic integration.
The delegation led by the Vice President of South Sudan, Taban Deng Gai, held a discussion with the Ethiopian Minister of Finance, Ahmed Shide, on the development and utilization of infrastructure in both countries.
Finance Minister Ahmed Shide said in a statement to reporters that the two countries are neighbors with multifaceted cooperation and strong people-to-people relations.
He mentioned that they have agreed to jointly undertake the construction of road infrastructure connecting Juba and other areas.
He also announced that the agreement includes telecom companies of the two countries to cooperate in Digital Five Optics, and the development of airports.
He pointed out that an agreement has been reached on the construction of a power transmission line through which neighboring countries will benefit from electricity from Ethiopia.
He also said that they have reached an agreement for comprehensive cooperation on issues of peaceful neighborliness and strengthening of the two countries.
South Sudan’s Minister of Information Communication Technology, Michael Makue Luz said that a technical committee has been formed to work together on infrastructure development, transport services, telecom, business and other issues.
He confirmed that they will work together to ensure the benefit of the two countries by turning the agreement into action.
The delegation led by the Vice President of South Sudan, including the Ministers of Finance, Transport, Information and Roads of South Sudan, with a total of more than 30 members, arrived in Addis Ababa yesterday for an official working visit.
