UNICEF supports one-stop center for GBV survivors in Dessie town, Amhara Region
Addis Ababa, May 3, 2022 (FBC) – Although the war has stopped in Amhara Region, innocent victims of GBV including women and children continue to suffer.
UNICEF announced that it is supporting a one-stop center for GBV survivors in Dessie. The center is providing a lifeline of support for women who were subjected to the violence.
Countless women and children were raped and physically brutalized by the TPLF, the reports indicated.
One of the survivors getting treatment at the center said: “I was on my way to the flour shop at 6:30 am in the morning when four men dragged me to the forest. When I reached there, two of them held me down. They bit me all over my chest. During the struggle, they hit me on the forehead with the muzzle.”
Ethiopian Institution of the Ombudsman recently revealed that over 1,200 women including girls, elders and PWD in Amhara were gang-raped by TPLF forces.
