Ethiopia taking part in the 60th parliamentary Assembly of OACPS in France
Addis Ababa, April 1, 2022 (FBC) – A highlevel delegation of Ethiopia led by Honorable Tagesse Chaffo, Speaker of the House of the FDRE, has taken part at the 60th parliamentary Assembly of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) that was officially launched on March 31, 2022, in Strasbourg, France.
The OACPS Assembly had kicked off its meeting by deliberating on the outcomes of the various committee meetings that dwelt on the status of peace and security issues in the region, ways and means to collaborate in managing the adverse impacts of the COVID pandemic, and strengthening the stature of the OACPS to make it fit for purpose to the current global reality.
Honorable speaker Tagesse Chafo has expressed Ethiopia’s unwavering stance in playing its part to strengthening the institutional capacity of OACPS to make it fit for purpose, efficient, independent and a visible actor in the multilateral fora.
He also pointed out important items that would enrich the Rules of Procedure of the OACPS EU joint parliamentary assembly under revision.
In the preparatory sessions of the political committee held ahead of the assembly, Honorable Dima Nego (Phd), Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Standing Committee of the House of Representatives took the opportunity to explain to the members of the assembly about the current situation in Ethiopia and create understanding and support to our cause.
The meeting has also deliberated on issues that will be discussed at the 41st session of the OACPS EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly to be conducted following the OACPS Assembly meeting from April 1 to 3, 2022.
This is the first in-person Session of the Assemblies since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
The OACPS has 79 member countries covering Africa, the Pacific and the Caribbean, with its Secretariat based in Brussels. Ethiopia is a founding member of the organisation.
