Regions maximizing efforts as per Ethiopia’s aspirations to replace wheat imports: PM Abiy
Addis Ababa, March 22, 2022 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed accompanied by Taufila Nyamadzab, World Bank Executive Director for Africa Group 1 and Ousmane Dione, World Bank Country Director for Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan and Eritrea visited cluster wheat productivity in East Shewa Zone, Adama Woreda of the Oromia Region.
The Finance Minister Ahmed Shide and Chief Administrator of the Oromia Region Shimelis Abdisa have also attended the visiting session.
As per Ethiopia’s aspirations to replace wheat imports through enhanced local production, various regions have been maximizing efforts accordingly, the Prime Minister stated. “Oromia Region has thus far cultivated wheat on 355,000 ha of land out of the plan set to achieve 400,000 ha nationally.
The wheat cultivation sites in Oromia Region that have been visited by the delegation promise fulfillment of our import substitution ambitions, the Prime Minister underlined.
