JICA vows commitment to support restoration of war-ravaged schools in Amhara, Afar Region
Addis Ababa, March 17, 2022 (FBC) – The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has affirmed commitment to support efforts underway to restore war ravaged schools in Afar and Amhara Regions.
The Education Minister, Professor Berhanu Nega conferred with JICA Ethiopia Director, Dr. Katsuki Morihara on how to cooperate on the rebuilding efforts to bring the schools to their previous conditions.
Professor Berhanu has expressed gratitude to the Government of Japan for its unreserved support to Ethiopia in the education sector, calling for Agency’s assistance in rebuilding schools vandalized by TPLF in Afar and Amhara Regions.
Katsuki Morihara, for his part, said JICA has constructed over 80 schools in several parts of Ethiopia from 2006 to 2022, reaffirming commitment of the Agency to contribute to rebuilding of the schools damaged due to the conflict in the two regions.
Katsuki Morihara also added that JICA will also provide necessary educational equipment for the schools including teaching aids and laboratory equipment needed for Science and Mathematics fields.
