Ethiopian Embassies in Djibouti, Brussels and Saudi Arabia celebrates Adwa Victory Day
Addis Ababa, March 6, 2022 (FBC) – The 126th Adwa Victory Day was commemorated at the Ethiopian Embassy in Djibouti in the presence of Ethiopian Ambassador to Djibouti Berhanu Tsegaye, Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Dean of Ambassadors in Djibouti, Kamil Abdalla Gaza, Ambassadors of various countries, representatives of international organizations, Ethiopian Embassy staff and members of the Ethiopian Diaspora community.
On the occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Djibouti, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, conveyed a message of congratulations on the commemoration ceremony of Adwa victory day.
Ethiopians, he said, are a proud people from a proud nation that has never been colonized; Adwa exemplifies how nations can defend themselves against hegemonic colonial powers.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye described Adwa’s victory as a “historic victory” that “changed the spectacle of colonialism in Africa, kindled the liberation fight of Africans, and shattered the yoke of slavery.”
The Ambassador went on to say that the 126th Adwa Victory Day is special since the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam has begun generating 375 megawatts of power.
He stated that the power production of the dam creates a good opportunity for Djibouti and Ethiopia to strengthen partnership in the energy sector.
During the ceremony, invited guests also expressed their readiness to make history that will be remembered for centuries by embracing the values of heroism and solidarity gained from the victory of Adwa.
The Ethiopian Embassy in Saudi Arabia has also celebrated the 126th Anniversary Adwa Victory Day with various events.
Likewise, the Ethiopian Embassy in Brussels celebrated the Adwa Victory Day holding a virtual discussion with Ethiopians in Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
Attendees noted the GERD is contemporary Adwa that rallied all Ethiopians behind it. They also suggested celebrating Adawa in the presence of African brothers and sisters in the upcoming years.
