Forefathers, foremothers sacrificed their lives for our today’s freedom – President
Addis Ababa, March 1, 2022 (FBC) – Addressing thousands who gathered around Adwa Memorial Bridge, in the capital Addis Ababa to celebrate the 126th Anniversary of the Adwa Victory, President Sahle-Work Zewde highlighted the sacrifices paid by Ethiopian patriots to maintain freedom and sovereignty of the country.
The President underlined that great forefathers and foremothers of Ethiopians have sacrificed their lives to safeguard the wellbeing of the nation and pass on free and independent country to this generation. “Our mothers and fathers preferred death to colonialism”, she said.
Ethoipians, through the Victory of Adwa gave lessons to people of the entire world who were under colony and oppression that it is possible to rid their nations of aggressors and colonialists.
The President further called on the generation to maintain the spirit of the victory of Adwa by actively participating in development endeavors across the nation in order to realize prosperous Ethiopia.
