Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway commences commuter train service with 19 stations
Addis Ababa, February 22, 2022 (FBC) – The Addis Ababa Djibouti Railway officially commenced yesterday a commuter train service with 19 stations in the presence of Ambassador of China to Ethiopia Zhao Ziyuan and the Ethiopian Transport Minister, Dagmawit Moges and other officials from Ethiopia and Djibouti.
In connection with the commencement of the commuter train service, the railway organized a seminar yesterday on the ‘Significance of the Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway for the Horn of Africa’.
On the occasion, the Transport Minister Dagmawit Moges said that the Addis Ababa-Djibiouti Standard Gage Railway line, a flagship belt and road initiative of the China, Ethiopia and Djibouti partnership is in good progress over the last four years of operation.
She further stressed a need for increased efficiency and quality service delivery.
Dagmwti underlined that Ethiopia is looking forward to an enhanced cooperation with China to advance the railway sector in the country.
The commuter train service will be operational with 19 stations across the railway.
