Remarkable achievements registered in efforts to ensure food self-sufficiency: Agriculture Ministry

Addis Ababa, September 9, 2021 (FBC) – Ministry of Agriculture stated that remarkable achievements have been registered in efforts to ensure food self-sufficiency.

More than 342 Million quintals of food crops have been harvested during 2020 Meher cultivation period, the Ministry indicated. The harvest has shown an increase of 120 Million quintals compared to the 2011 Meher cultivation period.

More than 60 Million quintals of horticulture crops have also been cultivated in small scale landholdings across the nation with an increase of over 38 Million quintals compared to the 2011 cultivation season.

According to the Ministry, the national agricultural productivity has shown an annual increase of 5.3pct from 2011-2020.
