Wrongly convicted woman freed after five years in prison as suspected murder victim found alive
Addis Ababa, July 8, 2021 (FBC) – A woman named Azalech Beteminda who was wrongly convicted of murder crime and sentenced five years of imprisonment has been set free after suspected murder victim found alive.
According to the Amahra Region Office of Attorney General, the prisoner was sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of murdering her step-daughter due false testimony at court.
Following the reappearance of the suspected murder victim in Sela Dingay town of North Shewa where the murder was claimed to take place, members of the community informed police on the situation.
Based on the evidence found by police, the North Shewa Zone High Court took the case to the Amhara Region Immunity Board. During its 13th extraordinary session passed decision for release of the wrongly convicted woman from prison.
