Deputy PM Demeke holds phone talks with Swedish FM Ann Christin Linde 

Addis Ababa, July 2, 2021 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Demeke Mekonnen held phone talks with Foreign Affairs Minister of Sweden Ann Christin Linde on latest developments.

During the phone conversation, Deputy Prime Minister Demeke commended the long-standing ties between Ethiopia and Sweden calling for enhanced multifaceted cooperation between the two nations.

He pointed out that the government of Ethiopia has declared the unilateral ceasefire in Tigray in a bid to facilitate peaceful agricultural atmosphere for farmers of the region and the ongoing humanitarian activities.

He further reaffirmed the commitment of the government to jointly work with international partners to meet humanitarian needs in Tigray and stressed need for continued support from the international community to well address the situation.

The swedish Foreign Minister Ann Christin Linde, to her part, appreciated the determination of the Ethiopian government to declare the unilateral ceasefire in Tigray calling for continued efforts to investigate alleged human rights abuses and take measures accordingly.

She further reiterated support of the Swedish government to Ethiopia’s position towards seeking solutions for the GERD issue through the AU led negotiation.

The two further exchanged views on the border dispute with Sudan and possible solutions to the issues.
