Kenya says AU capable platform to materialize negotiation on GERD
Addis Ababa, July 2, 2021 (FBC) – Kenya believes that the African Union is an important platform to materialize the negotiations on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), country’s Ambassador to India said.
During his conversation with Ethiopian Ambassador in India, Tizita Mulugeta, Ambassador Kenya in New Delhi, Willy K. Bett affirmed the support of his country to the unilateral ceasefire Ethiopia has declared in Tigray.
He further underscored that the AU is instrumental in addressing GERD issues with a view to bring African Problems with African Solution.
Ambassador Tizita Mulugeta briefed her Kenyan counterpart on the current situation in Tigray and the unilateral ceasefire declared by the government of Ethiopia.
She also explained humanitarian reason as the fundamental causes for the ceasefire, especially to let farmers employ the planting season undisturbed by conflict and to provide better opportunity for humanitarian support.
The Ambassador has also elaborated the status of the negotiation of the GERD and the significance of the AU led negotiations among Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt to reach a win-win solution.
Ambassador Tizita has requested her counterpart to acknowledge the progress made by the government of Ethiopian and the support of Kenyan Government towards Ethiopian position on different platforms.
