Tanzania reaffirms unwavering support to the AU-Led negotiation on GERD
Addis Ababa, May 31, 2021 (FBC) – Foreign Affairs Minister of Tanzania, Liberata Mulamula reaffirmed unwavering support to the (African Union) AU-led negotiation on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
The pledge from the Tanzanian Foreign Affairs Minister came at a time when she held talks with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to Tanzania, Yonas Yosef.
The two agreed upon ways to the full implementation of agreements signed between their respective countries so far as per the recent discussions held between the Presidents of Ethiopia and Tanzania, Sahle-Work Zewde and Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Ambassador yonas explained to the Tanzania Foreign Minister the position of Ethiopia on the fair and reasonable utilization of the Nile River, and the amicable approach the country is following to resolve the GERD issue through negotiations.
He further briefed Liberata Mulamula on the latest developments in Tigray region, the preparations for the upcoming general elections and Ethiopia’s reediness for the second filling of the dam.
Yonas further extended gratitude to the government of Tanzania for its unreserved support to long journey of negotiations to realize fair and utilization of River Nile among the riparian countries and the support to Ethiopia’s amicable approach towards the issue.
Tanzania Foreign Minister Liberata Mulamula, to her part, thanked the ambassador for the detailed explanation on the latest developments in Ethiopia and region and expressed her country’s confidence on Ethiopia’s longstanding and profound experience on resolving her problems through self-sustained manner.
GERD issues can be resolved through negotiations led by the African Union under the guiding principle of “African Solutions to African Problems”
She further reiterated the commitment of Tanzania to deepen its bilateral relation multifaceted cooperation with Ethiopia.
