NEBE announces draft election schedule
Addis Ababa, January 15, 2020 (FBC) – The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) announced the draft timetable for Ethiopia’s forthcoming general elections today.
The electoral board is currently deliberating on the draft timetable with stakeholders at Jupiter hotel.
According to the draft schedule tabled by NEBE, registration of voters will take place from April 7- May 7, 2020.
April 7-16 is the date given for political parties to submit election symbols to the electoral board.
April 21-May 4 is registration of candidates, May 5 – August 11 electoral campaigning and June 7 is the date suggested by NEBE for announcement of list of candidates.
The Board suggested the voting process to take place on August, 16 2020.
It also proposed August 16 and 17 as dates for the announcement of results of the elections.
It was noted that the draft electoral schedule was prepared based on the Constitution.
