Prosperity Party committed to work with ANC in Pan-Africanism spirit: PM
Addis Ababa, January 11, 2020 (FBC) –Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed said his party -Prosperity Party (PP), is committed to work with ANC in the spirit of Pan-Africanism.
He made the remarks at the 108th anniversary celebrations of the African National Congress (ANC) held in Kimberley the Northern Cape Province of South Africa.
“We are keen to establish a structure platform to share views and experiences with ANC. My party will continue to closely work with ANC in the spirit of Pan-Africanism to the benefit of people of both countries,” he said.
The Ethiopian PM also paid tribute to South Africans who-led the struggle against apartheid and dedicated their lives in the struggle for the better South Africa and the rest of the world, namely; Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu and Oliver Tambo, among others.
“Today is the day to pay tribute to the fallen and the day to give thanks for their sacrifices in the service of their beloved nation,” he said.
He said “We Ethiopians always cherish and look with at most admiration the great heroism of South African men and women in their successful struggle to end Apartheid.”
“ANC was built over decades through blood and sweat of successive generation of South Africans dedicated to the cause of freedom and dignity,” he said.
He also paid tribute to the current South African President Cyril Ramaphosa for keeping strong the democratic vision of Madiba (Nelson Mandela).
The Prime Minister is hopeful that “under the leadership of ANC, South Africa will continue to be a more equitable, wealthier, healthier, more tolerant and hopeful nations that inspires the rest of Africa.”
The Ethiopian Prime Minister arrived in South Africa yesterday for a two-day official state visit at the invitation of President Cyril Ramaphosa.
During his visit, the Premier will met with senior South African officials to discuss bilateral issues.
He will also meet with Ethiopian community residing in South Africa.
As a precursor to the larger community dialogue that will be held on Sunday with Ethiopians in the Southern African diaspora, he met and held discussions with representatives from the business sector, professional associations, religious communities last night.
