Peace Minister, WHO Regional Director discuss health related issues
Addis Ababa, April 15, 2021 (FBC) –The Minister of Peace, Muferihat Kamil, today received Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, WHO Regional Director for Africa.
The two discussed about community health scare, links between health and peace, socio-economic impact of COVID-19 pandemic as well as other related issues.
Muferihat briefed the director on ongoing humanitarian aid and rehabilitation efforts, including provision of basic health service, in the northern parts of Ethiopia.
The Minister also thanked WHO, other UN agencies and the international communities in general for their support to Ethiopia during tough times.
Dr. Matshidiso for her part commended Ethiopia’s primary health care system and added, it could be a model for other countries.
In a related news, Muferihat held talks with Angela Spillbury, Director of UK’s Department for International Cooperation (DFID) in Ethiopia regarding disaster early warning system and disaster risk management update.
The Minister elaborated on the changes being made to prevent the occurrence of natural and man-made disasters, as well as to reduce the risk of disasters and to provide an up-to-date management system.
Spilsbury for her part said the ongoing works are encouraging. She added that DFID will work to create a conducive environment to expand the cooperation framework.
