Ethiopia, South Sudan sign MoU to conduct joint border control operation

Addis Ababa, March 20, 2021 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Federal Police Commission and South Sudan National Police Service have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to conduct joint operation at border areas.

The MoU was signed in Juba today by Ethiopian Federal Police Commission Commissioner General Demelash Gebremicheal and Inspector General of Police General Majak Akec Malok of South Sudan National Police Service.

According to the agreement, the two country will conduct joint operation to stem cross border crimes, human trafficking and flow of illicit arms.

They will also share information and experience as well as cooperate in training of  South Sudan police officers in Ethiopia’s police university college.

Commissioner General Demelash on the occasion said the MoU would have a significant contribution to maintain sustainable peace in the region.

General Majak Akec Malo, after describing the MoU as historical, said  it would further strengthen the relations between the two countries.

He added South Sudan is committed for the implementation of the agreement.

During his visit, the Commissioner General also held discussion with officials of South Sudan, including security advisor of President Salva Kiir Mayardit, and Director General of Security Service of the country.
