IGAD vows to continue working closely with Ethiopia for stability of Horn of Africa

Addis Ababa, March 15, 2021 (FBC) – Ahmed Shide, Minister of Finance, has held discussion with Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, Executive Secretary of the Inter-governmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

The two discussed on the economic transformation program of Ethiopia and strengthening interstate relations in the Horn of  Africa.

The Minister stressed the importance of further strengthening economic cooperation in the region, which will result in more comprehensive political, social, and security ties.

This, he said, will benefit all member states and result in more regional peace and security, according to the Ministry of Finance.

Dr Workneh for his part elaborated on the importance of building the institutional capacity of IGAD to implements its programs and expressed his commitment to continue working closely with Ethiopia for the growth and stability of the Horn of Africa.

In a related development, Ethiopia and Djibouti also agreed to strengthen their cooperation the the telecommunication sector.

The two countries reached the agreement following the recent visit of an Ethiopian delegation led by Ahmed Shide to Djibouti.
