Media outlets in Sudan briefed about Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, March 10, 2021 (FBC) – Ethiopian Ambassador to Sudan, Yibeltal Aemero today gave a press briefing to local and international media outlets in Sudan regarding the current situation in the Tigray region.
He said the embassy prepared the briefing as it is important for the brotherly people of Sudan to have accurate and up-to-date information on the situation in Ethiopia.
In his briefing, Ambassador Yibeltal spoke about the atrocities committed by the TPLF against the Ethiopian people since its inception, the horrific attacks on the national defense forces, the genocide in Maikadra, the efforts to bring criminals to justice in the region.
He also described the ongoing humanitarian efforts that the government is undertaking in the region, the rehabilitation and rebuilding activities including the ongoing investigation into allegedly committed human rights abuses.
He added that while the government is working hard to bring the people of Tigray back to normalcy, TPLF supporters abroad and some media outlets and governments have launched a multi-pronged campaign to mislead the international community by portraying unexisting pictures that claim atrocities committed against the civilian people in Tigray.
In this regard, he urged responsible bodies to understand the reality on the ground and to support the federal government’s efforts turning a blind eye to activities that are helpful neither to the government nor the people in Tigray.
Responding to claims of Ethiopia’s support to armed groups that oppose the government of Sudan, Ambassador Yibeltal said the allegations are baseless and the government of Ethiopia has no business in nullifying the peace in Sudan that it has helped to establish with greater initiatives from Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
Regarding the refugees in Sudan, he said talks are underway with the Sudanese government to repatriate the refugees and that some refugees were waiting to be registered, he said.
