Beles Sugar factory construction to complete and go operational within a month period
Adddis Ababa, Marcch 9, 2021 (FBC) – Beles Sugar Factory, a plant which has a capacity of producing 3 million quintals per annum is said to be completed and go operational within a month.
Chief Executive Officer of the Ethiopian Sugar Corporation, Woro Robba said that installation of machineries is well underway so that the operation can commence within 30 days as of now.
The Beles Sugar Factory whose construction started seven years at a cost of 235 Million Dollar failed to complete and commence operation as per time scheduled due to low performances of Metals and Engineering Corporation (METEC) that was contractor of the plant, the CEO said.
According to the CEO, the government which thoroughly investigated short comings of METEC terminated the contract and transferred to a Chinese company.
Currently, the construction works have reached 87.7pct, the CEO indicated, adding that the remaining works are in a good momentum in line with finalizing works in the near future.
He said the factory will have a crucial role in stimulating the economic activities in the area and creating ample job opportunities to citizens besides addressing the shortage of sugar in the market.
