Election board postpones voters’ registration
Addis Ababa, March 2, 2021 (FBC) –The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) has announced the postponement of voters’ registration for the upcoming 6th general election.
According to the electoral calendar of the board, the registration of voters had been scheduled from 1-25 March, 2021, but was postponed due to challenges encountered by the Board.
Among the challenges encountered by the board were delays in opening constituency offices, including after constituency officers were trained and deployed.
In some regions, the necessary offices were not open to start candidate registration according to the electoral calendar, the election board said in a statement issued yesterday.
Challenges also include lack of transportation for the distribution of election materials and time-consuming process of recruiting independent constituency officers, it added.
According to a statement, voters’ registration for the 6th general elections will take place from March 25, 2021 to April 23, 2021.
The board added that it will provide additional information regarding voters’ registration in the future.
