Political parties urged to fulfil responsibilities to make upcoming elections peaceful
Addis Ababa, January 14, 2021 (FBC) –The Oromia Prosperity Party said all contending political parties need to fulfil their responsibilities to make the upcoming general elections fair, credible and peaceful.
Communication Head of the Party, Taye Dendea, made the remark while responding to questions that the Oromia regional state had collected via social media.
The government has been working to make the elections fair, credible and peaceful, he said, adding contending political parties also need to do the same.
In a move to expand the political space, the government allowed exiled political parties to return home, guaranteed people the right to organize, protected freedom of expression and revised repressive laws, he said.
Extensive works have also been done to defend media freedom, he said, adding it is the responsibility of all actors to exercise it in accordance to the law.
If anyone is found inciting unrest, death and conflict under the pretext of politic, it will be held accountable and face justice, the head indicated.
As far as the OLF-Shene group is concerned, Taye said the government would take measures to wipe-out the group to make the Oromia region peaceful.
