Deputy Premier Holds Discussion With WHO Director General
Addis Ababa, December 17, 2019 (FBC) –Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen has held discussion with Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr Tedros Adhanom.
The discussion was held on the sidelines of the first Global Refugee Forum opened in Geneva, Switzerland yesterday.
During the discussion, Dr Tedros commended Ethiopia’s leadership in health for all program and its efforts to prevent non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
The two sides also discussed on ways to address nutrition in the country and improve access to medicines.
The Director General assured the Deputy Prime Minister of WHO’s commitment to continue its partnership and support to Ethiopia’s health sector.
Deputy Prime Minister Demeke for his part appreciated the constructive role being played by the organization in Ethiopia’s health sector development.
A high-level Ethiopian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Demeke travelled to Geneva, Switzerland yesterday to attend the Forum.
The Forum is the first gathering at the Ministerial level to follow up on the practical implementation of the Global Compact on Refugees, affirmed at the UN in New York in December 2018.
Ethiopia currently hosts close to a million refugees from neighbouring countries.
