Ethiopia to repatriate 1, 440 citizens from Saudi Arabia

Addis Ababa, September 14, 2020 (FBC) – Some 1, 440 Ethiopians will be repatriated from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

Mesfin Gebremariam, consular affairs director-general at MFA, said the repatriation process will take place from September 16 to October 6, 2020.

About 300 citizens will return home next Wednesday. The rest will be repatriated in the coming days, he indicated.

The repatriation will take place in joint cooperation between MFA, the Saudi Government and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), he said.

A total of 147 Ethiopians returned home from Saudi Arabia last week.

About 132 Ethiopians affected by the August 4 deadly blast in Lebanese capital, Beirut, are also expected to arrive home on Thursday.
