708,157MT aid supplied to beneficiaries in 6 months: EDRMC
Addis Ababa, February 9, 2023 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission (EDRMC) announced that 708,157 metric tons of humanitarian assistance was delivered to the beneficiaries in the first six months of the current financial year.
EDRMC confirmed that the projected target for the first-half of the current fiscal year for 3 rounds was 1,078,369 metric tons of humanitarian assistance.
Hence, the Commission achieved only 66 percent of its target for the first 6 months of the 2022/23 financial year.
During a six-month performance review meeting in Dire-Dawa city, it was stated that in the first half of the on-going fiscal year, the Commission made preparations and identified 21,306,871 people affected by conflicts, droughts, and floods in different areas of Ethiopia need humanitarian assistance.
EDRMC Commissioner, Shiferaw Tekle-Maryam, said the government alone is expected to provide humanitarian assistance to 9,905,019 people, whereas, partners are expected to provide aid to 11,401,852 people.
Among the beneficiaries that received humanitarian aid, more than 16 million people were affected by drought.
The Commissioner explained that about 4.6 million people were internally displaced due to man-made problems. But some of them have returned to their villages.
