52nd Ethiopian Athletics Championship underway in the capital
Addis Ababa, May 16, 2023 (FBC) – The 52nd Ethiopian Athletics Championship has kicked off today in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian Athletics Federation announced.
In today’s opening events of the 52nd Ethiopian Athletics Championship, women’s broad jump, men’s high jump finals, and 800m men’s and women’s qualifying competitions were held.
It is mentioned that the competition aims to create an opportunity for athletes to warm-up for the 19th World Athletics Championships, which will be held in Budapest, Hungary, from December 19 to 27, 2023.
In addition, the national athletics championship is expected to help create competition opportunities for athletes from regions, city administrations, clubs and training centers, and to produce replacement to senior athletes.
The Ethiopian Athletics Championship has been held since 1971. This year, it will be held in Addis Ababa at the Ethiopian Sports Academy from May 16 to 24, 2023.
The Ethiopian Athletics Federation recalled that in previous years, Ethiopia has participated in continental, international and Olympic competitions and racked up myriads of victories and made the national flag fly high. It hopes that the ongoing national event will help sustain the glittering history of Ethiopia in athletics.
