3rd Africa Forum on Women Peace and Security kicks off in Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa, December 14, 2022 (FBC) – The third Africa Forum on Women Peace and Security (WPS) has kicked off at AU Headquarters, in Addis Ababa, under the theme of “Leveraging on WPS Monitoring to Enhance Women’s Participation and Leadership in Peace Processes in Africa”.
The FDRE President, Sahle-Work Zewde, women who are in high positions in Africa, and women who carried out influential activities in the peace building process attended the opening ceremony of the event.
The Forum aims to reflect on the current strategies of enhancing women participation in peace processes, how to strengthen and support women’s peace building networks, the role of young women and girls in peace and security, and to evaluate the delivery of existing WPS strategies, using the Continental Results Framework.
According to the report from Ethiopian News Agency (ENA), the Forum is scheduled to be held until tomorrow.
It is said that the expected outcomes of the forum are to identify strategies for advancing women’s inclusion and participation in peace processes, strengthen networks and learning among the regional women peace and security forums, and develop inputs to the 3rd Africa status report on WPS through the CRF.
AU’s official statement confirmed that the Forum is organized by the Office of the AU Special Envoy on Women, Peace and Security, under the leadership of Sahle-Work Zewde, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
