35 Ordinary Session of Assembly of Heads of State and Gov’t of AU kicked off
Addis Ababa, February 5, 2022 (FBC) – The 35 Ordinary Session of Assembly of Heads of State and Government of AU has kicked of in participationo leaders of 55 member states, representatives of international organization and officials of AU organs.
In his opening remarks at the session, Commissioner of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat called on the international community to give prior attention for its partnership with Africa. Multilateralism should be given emphasis in the international arrena, he said.
He prioritized solidarity and state sovereignty in the African continent. He also stressed the need to fight malpractices including corruption and nepotism in the continent so as to ensure agenda 2063.
He also called on concerted efforts to address peace and security issues and silence the gun for peaceful and prosperous Africa.
The commissioners also stressed that job creation and youth development should be given prior attention. Moussa Faki said that the AU Commission has been undertaking reforms to enhance efficiency of its internal management.
President of Senegal, Macky Sall has officially taken over chairmanship of the African Union from President of the DRC, Felix Tshsekedi.
