3.2bn birr required to restore war-ridden water infrastructure in northern Ethiopia: Ministry
Addis Ababa, February 17, 2023 (FBC) – Some 3.2 billion Birr is urgently needed to rebuild conflict-ravaged water infrastructure in Amhara, Tigray and Afar regions, said the Ministry of Water and Energy-Ethiopia (MoWE).
According to Habtamu Itefa, Minister of MoWE, efforts are being made to restore water supply to areas in the northern part of Ethiopia that were cut off during the conflict.
Hence, maintenance work is being done in those regions within short, medium and long term water infrastructure works, he underscored.
In an interview with Fana Broadcasting Corporate’s Melaku Gedif, the Minister said the reconstruction work is being carried out in cooperation with various partners.
He noted that in the process so far, more than 4.8 million citizens have been able to benefit from restoration of water services in the aforementioned regions.
The Minister emphasized that more than 3.2 billion birr is urgently needed to rebuild all water infrastructure in northern Ethiopia.
