Washington DC Mayor arrives in Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa, November 9, 2019 (FBC) –At the invitation of Engineer Takele Uma, Deputy Mayor of Addis Ababa, Muriel Bowser, Mayor of Washington DC, arrived in Addis Ababa today for an official visit.
Upon arrival at the Bole International Airport, she was welcomed by Engineer Takele and other high government officials.
During her stay in the city, she will visit various institutions.
The two sides are also expected to renew the sister city agreement between Addis Ababa and Washington DC.
In celebration of Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed’s visit to Washington last year, Mayor Bowser proclaimed July 28, 2018 “Ethiopia Day in DC.”
Home to more than 30,000 Ethiopian immigrants, the Washington, DC metropolitan area has the largest population of Ethiopia-born people in the United States.
Since 2013, Washington, DC has had a sister city agreement and protocol of friendship with Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.
