Gov’t detains individuals suspected of inciting violence in universities
Addis Ababa, November 13, 2019 (FBC) – The Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MoSHE) said efforts are being made to bring to justice individuals suspected of inciting violence in some universities.
In a press conference issued today, Dr Samuel Kifle, State Minister of Science and Higher Education, said two lives were lost and some others injured when students in Woldia University clashed last Saturday.
After the Woldia incident, other universities such as Metu, Jimma and Medawelabu experienced similar problems, he said.
Since last night, the government has been detaining individuals suspected of inciting the conflicts, the State Minister said.
Consultations are underway with students with the involvement of religions leaders to return students who have left their universities due to security concern to their campus as of today.
