UAE pledges over $370m grant for Ethiopia’s new parliament building project
Addis Ababa, October 15, 2019 (FBC) -The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has pledged over $370 million grant for Ethiopia’s new parliament building project, said the House of People’s Representative (HPR).
Tesfaye Daba, Chairperson of House’s Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs Standing Committee told The Ethiopian Herald that the UAE made the pledge following the recent visit of Tagesse Chafo, Speaker of the HPR to Abu Dhabi.
According to Tesfaye, the construction of the new parliament building would have a significant role in availing a conducive environment for MPs and helping them to better executing activities.
He further stated that the Ethiopian parliamentary delegation also conferred with UAE counterpart on ways to enhance the two countries inter-parliamentary cooperation.
The current Ethiopian Parliament building was built in the early 1930s and hosts the House of Peoples’ Representatives and the House of Federation.
