Political parties in Oromia agree to work together
Addis Ababa, October 2, 2019 (FBC) –Political parties operating in Oromia regional state have signed agreements to work together.
Chairperson of EPRDF and Oromo Democratic Party (ODP), Dr Abiy Ahmed, Deputy Chairperson of ODP, Lemma Megerssa and Chairperson of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) Dawd Ibsa attended the signing ceremony held yesterday.
Also present at the signing ceremony were Chairperson of the Oromo Federalist Congress, Prof. Merera Gudina, Chairperson of the Oromo Democratic Front (ODF) Lencho Leta and leaders of other political parties.
In his remark at the signing ceremony, Dr Abiy Ahmed called on other political parties to follow suit. “I think this idea could be applicable for other political parties operating in the country,” he said.
“We can achieve our objective and demand through discussion in a civilized manner,” he added.
“No one should be imprisoned and hurt for promoting his political views and idea. We can work together through holding peaceful dialogue,” he stated.
“A person who has no inner peace can’t bring peace to others. If we don’t have better idea, we can’t share for others,” he said.
“Hence, in order to modernize our politics, it is very essential to work together, exchange ideas and learn from each other” he said.
The Prime Minister finally said “without any doubt, the upcoming election will be free, democratic, and fair.”
