Ethiopian FM receives Chair of South Sudan Sanctions Committee
Addis Ababa, October 14, 2019 (FBC) –Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedu Andargachew, received Ambassador Joanna Wronecka, Chair of the South Sudan Sanctions Committee of the UN Security Council at his office today.
The two discussed the current situations in South Sudan and implementation of the sanctions imposed on some officials in the Africa’s youngest country.
The Ethiopian Foreign Minister said her visit to the Horn of Africa would create a good opportunity to strengthen the relations between South Sudan and the United Nations Security Council.
Commending efforts of the Committee, Gedu said Ethiopia is working closely with the Committee and other pertinent parties to bring peace in South Sudan.
He also called on all concerned bodies to provide support to the South Sudanese peace process which is now at a decisive juncture.
Ambassador Joanna Wronecka for her part appreciated Ethiopia’s efforts to maintain peace in the region in general and in South Sudan in particular.
She also urged the South Sudanese parties to show their commitment to peace by implementing the peace agreement signed in the past.
Ambassador Joanna Wronecka also congratulated Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed on winning the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize.
