Ethiopians celebrate National Flag Day
Addis Ababa, October 14, 2019 (FBC) –Ethiopians across the nation today celebrated the 12th Ethiopian National Flag Day under the team “Our flag is the result of the sum of our diversity and the pillar of our unity.”
It was in particular marked in the premises of the House of People’s Representatives in the presence of President Sahlework-Zewde, Deputy Speaker of the House, Shitaye Minale and President of the Federal Supreme Court Meaza Ashenafi.
President Sahle-Work on the occasion said “a flag is a symbol of national unity and reconciliation. It tells our past, present and future history.”
“A flag represents a nation and it is a symbol of sovereignty,” the President added.
Deputy Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives Shitaye Minale said that Ethiopians have a special place for a flag.
The Ethiopian national flag is a symbol of freedom, victory, equality, and democracy, Shitaye added.
Ethiopia celebrates the National Flag Day every year on the first Monday of the Ethiopian month of Tikmit, the Amharic word for the month of October.
