Premier, Aba Gadas discuss upcoming Irreechaa festival
Addis Ababa, September 21, 2019 (FBC) -Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed and Vice President of the Oromia regional state, Shimeles Abdissa, met with Aba Gadas and elders this morning to discuss the upcoming Irreechaa festival and other issues.
The discussions focused on ensuring Irreechaa is celebrated peacefully and in alignment with the values and assets of the Oromo tradition and culture of unity, love and forgiveness, according to office of the Prime Minister.
The Aba Gadas and elders called upon all stakeholders to play a positive role in enabling a peaceful festival to be shared in harmony with fellow Ethiopian brothers and sisters.
The Prime Minister and Shimeles Abdissa also responded to questions that were raised pertaining to residents of the region and reached consensus with the Aba Gadas and elders on matters of development, peace and sustaining the reforms.
In addition, it was also stated that work will be undertaken with all Ethiopians, towards further nurturing the values, traditions, language and culture of the Oromo people.
In concluding, the Prime Minister declared his hopes for a peaceful preparation and celebration of the Irreechaa festival reflecting values of national unity.
One of many national treasures, the Irreechaa festival is a pillar of the Oromo culture exemplifying thanksgiving, the office said.
