Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister meets with his Russian counterpart
Addis Ababa, September 10, 2019 (FBC) – Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedu Andargachew, today held talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow.
In his opening remark, Gedu said Ethiopia and Russia established formal diplomatic relations 121 years ago, soon after the victory of Adwa.
He said due attention would be given towards using the Ethio-Russia joint commission meeting, scheduled to take place in October, as a good opportunity to cement the ties between the two countries in the areas of technology, aviation industry and culture.
Gedu also briefed Sergey Lavrov on the role being played by Ethiopia to bring peace and stability in the Horn of Africa and promote regional economic integration.
The Ethiopian Foreign Minister called on Russian investors to invest in Ethiopia. He also invited the Russian Minister to visit Ethiopia.
Sergey Lavrov for his part said Ethiopia has been a key partner for Russia in Africa for over 120 years.
“We appreciate the traditions of friendship, mutual respect, trust, and support that have developed over this period of time and make up the basis of our relations today,” he said.
The Russian Foreign Minister wished Ethiopians a happy New Year.
