Ethiopia to sign “Additional Protocol” with IAEA
Addis Ababa, September 16, 2019 (FBC) – The 63rd General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) kicked off today in Vienna, Austria.
An Ethiopian delegation led by Dr.-Ing. Getahun Mekuria, Minister of Innovation and Technology, is participating at the 5-day conference.
On the sidelines of the event, Ethiopia will sign “Additional Protocol” with IAEA, said the Ethiopian Minister on Twitter.
Ethiopian Radiation Protection Authority will also sign a cooperation memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC), he added.
Strengthening the effectiveness of safeguards implementation and making more use of nuclear science and technology for development are some of the topics that Member States will discuss at the meeting.
The delegates will also discuss the IAEA’s annual report and financial statements for 2018 and are expected to approve its program and budget for 2020-2021.
The Conference will elect 11 new members to the IAEA’s 35-member Board of Governors.
