Chief Administrators of Amhara and Benishangul Gumuz regional states visit GERD
Addis Ababa, August 17, 2019 (FBC) –Chief Administrators of the Amhara and Benishangul Gumuz regional states have visited the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
GERD is located in Benishangul Gumuz regional state, approximately 500 km North West of the capital Addis Ababa.
The construction of the dam has reached over 67%.
At the end of the works, it will be the largest dam in Africa with a total installed power of 6,450 MW.
The delegation led by the two Chief Administrators visited the dam this morning ahead of the joint peace and development conference of the two regional states.
Senior officials from both sides, including Chief Administrator of Amhara regional state, Temesgen Tiruneh, and Chief Administrator of Benishangul Gumuz regional state, Ashadli Hassen, are in attendance of the conference.
The meeting is expected to mainly assess the security situation and recent conflicts in neighboring zones of the two regional states.
