SEPDM suspends senior leadership of Sidama and Hadiya zones, Hawassa city administration
Addis Ababa, July 25, 2019 (FBC) – The Southern Ethiopian People’s Democratic Movement (SEPDM) has suspended senior leadership of Sidama and Hadiya zones, including heads of Hawassa city administration.
In a statement issued today, SEPDM Executive Committee said they were suspended from their leadership position for having a major role in the recent violence that resulted in loss of lives and properties in Sidama zone.
The Executive Committee also warned violent groups in Wolayita and Kaffa zones to immediately cease illegal acts.
The Committee condemned that violent acts and extended its condolences for victims of the violence. It also underscored the need to immediately rehabilitate the victims.
The Committee further said efforts will be made in partnership with the public to bring to justice those responsible for the damage and to ensure rule of law in other parts of the regional state.
The Committee said the security in the regional state has been placed under the federal security force-led command post so as to quell the disruptive acts being observed in the regional state.
According to the Committee, these disruptive acts posed a serious threat to the residents and they are beyond the capability of the regional state to control them with the regular security works.
