Addis Ababa, June 12, 2019 (FBC) – Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed spoke on the phone with Sudan’s Transitional Military Council (TMC) Head, Abdel Fattah Burhan, on mediation progress to bring peace & stability to Sudan.

Their discussion highlighted the way forward on currently pressing issues, according to office of the Prime Minister

Both expressed hope that the current situation will be positivity remedied, the office added.

The Premier held talks separately with the Chief of the Sudanese Transitional Military Council (TMC), Lt. Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and members of the opposition Declaration of Freedom and Change in Khartoum last Friday.

During the talks he expressed Ethiopia’s commitment to fostering peace in the region and underlined that a prerequisite for restoring peace in Sudan is unity.

Sudan is in a political crisis following the toppling of President Omar al-Bashir in April.

The African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council last week suspended the participation of Sudan from all AU activities.

The suspension is effective until the establishment of a civilian-led transitional authority.

Meanwhile, IGAD called on Sudanese stakeholders to return to the negotiation table and work in good faith and in the spirit of compromise.

It also underscored the need to preserve the peace and stability of the Sudan and called on all Sudanese stakeholders to exercise maximum restraint and ease the increasing tension.
