PM plants seedlings to memorialize victims of last week’s attacks
Addis Ababa, June 29, 2019 (FBC) – Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed planted Weyra (Olive) seedlings in the compound of the National Palace this afternoon to memorialize victims of last week’s attacks.
Chief administrator of Amhara regional state, Dr Ambachew Mekonnen and his advisor Eizez Wasie as well as the regional state’s Attorney General, Migbaru Kebebe, were killed following the June 22 coup attempt in the city of Bahir Dar.
Chief of Staff of the National Defense Force, General Seare Mekonnen, along with Major General Geza’e Abera, was also killed by his bodyguard at his home in the capital Addis Ababa a few hours later.
“PM Abiy Ahmed planted Weyra (Olive) seedlings in the compound of the National Palace this afternoon, to memorialize Dr. Ambachew Mekonnen, General Seare Mekonnen, Migbaru Kebede, Eizez Wasie and Major General General Geza’e Abera,” said office of the Prime Minister.
“The seedlings planted today honour the lives they lived and recognize, as a standing memorial, their contributions to the reforms,” the office added.
