Ethiopia, Italy discuss migration, overseas employment cooperation
Addis Ababa, May 20, 2019 (FBC) –Ethiopia’s Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Dr. Ergogie Tesfaye, held talks with Mr. Arturo Luzzi, Ambassador of Italy to Ethiopia.
During the talks she appreciated the long-standing relationships of the two countries that lasted for over 130 years.
Dr. Ergogie also extended her sincere thanks for the support of the Italian Government to the Stemming Irregular migration in Northern and Central Ethiopia project financed jointly with EU, the Ministry said on its Facebook account.
She also underscored the need to find a possibility of extending the project to the Southern route where there is also high illegal migration.
The Italian Ambassador for his part said the project is a multilateral one that requires preparation of a project proposal in order to take it forward in consultation with the Ministry of Finance.
Dr. Ergogie also raised the possibility of overseas employment in Italy for the Ethiopian skilled human power graduated from universities.
Ambassador Arturo Luzzi said that Ethiopia is less privileged in Italy compared to other African countries.
The Ambassador stated that more than 30 Italian private companies will come to Addis Ababa in June 2019 where discussion can be made with them on the opportunities of job creation.
They have both agreed to prepare project proposals for further discussion and implementation.
The two also discussed on the cooperation to renovate an old Italian building in the compound of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
The Ambassador noted it as an interesting one and expressed his willingness to discuss with one of the Italian companies in Ethiopia to conduct the renovation.
