House passes bill to amend Institution of Ombudsman establishment law
Addis Ababa, April 25, 2019 (FBC) – The House of People’s Representatives (HPR) today approved unanimously the draft bill tabled to amend the law for the establishment of Ethiopian Institution of the Ombudsman.
According members of the House, the amendment would enable the institution to discharge its responsibilities properly and respond to grievances raised by the public within a short period of time.
The House also scraped articles N0 37 of the proclamation which gives immunity from prosecution for the Chief Ombudsman.
In a related development, the House approved the draft bill tabled to ink a loan agreement with the International Development Association (IDA), stating that it would help the country to implement cross-border cooperation projects.
